Woodland Workshops

Woodland Workshops

Woodland photography can feel overwhelming.

Too many trees.
Too much chaos.
Flat light.
No clear subject.

Join me on a woodland workshop where I will show you how to simplify the woodland – and turn visual confusion into meaningful, atmospheric images. This isn’t just about camera settings, It’s about seeing differently, how you orientate the woodland and observe the subtle changes. Time tailored to your requirements- I will have my equipment to join you.

1. Finding Mood Before Composition

Before we even lift a camera, I teach you how to read the woodland:

  • How light moves through trees

  • Why fog and rain changes everything

  • Where depth and separation naturally occur

  • How to use weather to your advantage

  • Learn to orientate the woodland

  • Creating layers and a background

Not focussed on chasing “pretty scenes” you’ll be shown fundamental principles to build compositions with intention. You will leave my workshop with a new perspective and tools to create meaningful woodland pictures.

2. Simplifying Chaos

Forests are cluttered — unless you know what to remove.

I’ll show you:

  • How to isolate subjects using focal length

  • How to create depth with layering

  • How to balance your pictures

  • Why stepping sideways often solves everything

You’ll learn how to see structure where others see mess.

3. Understanding Woodland Light

We work with real conditions — not studio setups.

You’ll learn:

  • Why overcast days are powerful

  • How to expose correctly in backlit scenes

  • When to underexpose for atmosphere

  • How to shoot in harsh light (yes, it’s possible)

Light transforms ordinary trees into something extraordinary.

4. Building a Cohesive Woodland Portfolio

Most photographers come away with random images.

I teach you how to:

  • Shoot with a theme

  • Tell a story through a series

  • Return to locations across seasons

  • Develop a recognisable woodland style

This is about growth, not just a single day out. Honing your skills and photography approach will give you long term confidence.

5. Editing for Atmosphere

We also cover post-processing:

  • Controlling greens naturally

  • Enhancing depth through subtle dodging and burning

  • Maintaining mood without over-editing

  • Creating timeless tones

You’ll leave knowing exactly how to finish your woodland images properly.
