MY WOODLAND JOURNEY

I’m Andrew Young — a former member of 7th Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery (7 Para RHA) who found a new path and purpose through woodland photography. My journey from military life to the quiet stillness of the woodland has shaped not only how I see the natural world, but how I share it.

After thirteen years and four deployments in environments where focus, discipline, and heightened awareness were essential, I discovered that woodlands offered something I’d been missing: space to breathe, to observe, and to reconnect. What began as simple walks quickly grew into a deep appreciation for the atmosphere, structural challenges, and subtle beauty of woodland landscapes.

Photography became my way of slowing down — of studying how light filters through the canopy, how mist softens the distance between trees, and how the woodland transforms through the seasons. Over time, it evolved into a passion and a craft that I now dedicate myself to fully.

My website is where those experiences come together. Here, I share:

Thoughtful guidance for ‘mastering’ woodland photography
Techniques shaped by patience, precision, and lived experience
Atmospheric imagery created through hours spent in woodland
Thought provoking Blogs
Insights to help others experience the woodland with clarity and connection

My aim is simple:
To inspire others to see the woodland not just as scenery, but as a place of creativity, calm, and endless photographic possibility.

Thank you for taking the time to explore my work. I hope my story encourages you to slow down, look closer, and change your woodland perspective.
